This home, located on Old Furnace Road, not far from Furnace Town, was built and owned by Frank Algernon Warren. Today, the Furnace Town historic site offers tours of that remarkable enterprise from the dawn of the Industrial Revolution. The iron furnace failed in mid-century, and the Pocomoke forest gradually took over the site. During the 1930s, workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps dug extensive ditches along Nassawango Creek. The Pocomoke River Wildlife Management Area borders the southern portion of the forest. With 17,676 acres (71.53 km 2) wooded between Snow Hill and Pocomoke City, the state forest is famous for its stands of loblolly pine and for its cypress swamps, which border the Pocomoke River. Both Pocomoke State Forest and Pocomoke River State Park offer a variety of recreational opportunities from fishing & canoeing along the Pocomoke River, enjoying one of the many hiking trails that run through the forest, and mountain bike riding on single-track natural surface trails.
